Last night we held one of our quarterly activities. We have had several new sisters move into our ward so we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to get to know each other. So with that in mind I put together our "Relief Society Roundup" with advertisements geared to rounding up all the sisters and coming together to strengthen current friendships and begin new ones. We also emphasized that this would be a great activity to bring less-actives or non-member friends to.
I began advertising two weeks in advance with special little handouts, a shout-out on our blog, facebook, RS newsletter, ward bulletin and email.
I invited the Kitsap Kickers to attend. They are a local group that gets together twice a week to line dance. They tour around to Sr Centers and other clubs. I rang them and asked if they would mind coming and teaching us some line dances at our "roundup". They readily agreed. Eight came all decked out in their western wear (I think the red boots with white stars on them are adorable!). Their fee? Dinner. Can't beat that.
We served dinner (BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, chips, pea salad and watermelon) and the cute cupcakes that Kelly served at Kari Dawns baby shower. At the end each sister received a gold bar party favor. Inside were 3 Hershey chocolate nuggets. On the underside of the gold bar I stuck the poem "Make new friends, but keep the old. Some are silver, the others gold.".
The night was a hit. Everyone seemed to enjoy dinner, visiting and learning the honky tonk walk.

In between our two quarterly activities we've had a night at the baseball game where families were invited to attend with their moms.

Kim taught a Love & Logic class.

...and we had a Girls Night Out which was a casual night of hanging out and watching Brian Regan.
